Echoes
"Echoes" aims to delve into the profound legacies of African American and precolonial Filipino societies, aiming to celebrate and reclaim histories that have been overlooked or distorted. Slave Descendant highlights the strength and resilience of African American heroes, both renowned and nearly forgotten, using mysticism, symbolic colors, and radiant halos to immortalize their contributions and evoke awe, spirituality, and intimidation. Head Hunters explores the spirituality, connection to nature, and artistry of precolonial Filipino society, incorporating motifs like the sacred crocodile—demonized by Christian colonizers—to strike the audience with wonder and fear while challenging colonial narratives. Together, these projects serve as powerful tools for disidentification, inspiring a deeper appreciation of cultural heritage and resisting erasure by reclaiming and glorifying histories in bold and evocative ways.
